Who Can Get a Library Card?       

City Residents

A Flat Rock Public Library card is free to all residents of Flat Rock , Rockwood and Huron Township. Huron Township residents will be issued a Romulus Card at our discretion. You must have two pieces of identificaiton with your current address to obtain a Romulus card. Applications for library cards must  be made in person at the Flat Rock Public Library Circulation desk.  You must have a Michigan Driver's license or other piece of identification which establishes residency on order to obtain a library card. 

Adult residents of Brownstown Township and Gibraltar can apply for a temporary card. This card is good for 30 days. Brownstown Township residents can apply for a permanent card at Trenton Pubic Library. Huron Township residents will apply for a permanent card at Romulus Public Library. 

All Wayne County library cards can be used here. You can check out up to 20 items (books, videos, DVDs, books on tape and/or CDs) per card. 

Adult cards are available for everyone 18 years of age and over.

Young adults, 13 to 17 years, can also apply for a library card.  A parent or guardian must co-sign the application form.

Children age 5 to age 12 can also apply for a library card. Children and their parents or guardians must sign the child's card application.

Special loans are available for teachers and homeschoolers. Ask about our vacation loan.

What Can You Do with Your Library Card?       

Borrow

You can borrow --

  • Most books, periodicals, videos, music CD's, and audio books for three weeks.
  • NY Times bestsellers and Book Club selections, and materials classified as "New" for two weeks.

There is a restriction of 20 items per library card.  The Flat Rock Library may also have limits on some kinds of materials, such as reference materials. Ask your librarian.

Adults and young adults who forget their library cards can still check out books and materials. Show an ID with your name to the circulation clerk at the front desk.

Renew

  • Renew by phone by calling 734-782-2430.  Have your name and/or the barcode numbers on your library card and the materials you want to renew ready.  Ask for the circulation desk and give these to the circulation clerk who answers the phone.

You may begin renewing material at any time before their due date through and after their due date. There is a limit to the number of times that you can renew items through out the year.  This limit is established by the library network.

Reserve

Patrons with valid FR library cards may place a hold/request through the online catalog or in person at the FR library circulation desk. For online service, if you have not already set up a PIN for your account you must do so first. Go to My Account and follow the directions for setting up your account PIN. This can also be done in person at the FR library circulation desk.  Holds may be placed on all books, except reference books. Requests and holds cannot be placed on videos, CDs, CD-ROMs, DVDs and other book materials from  libraries where these items are local request only.

How to place a hold through the Online Catalog:  

 

1. Go to our catalog  http://ibistro.tln.lib.mi.us/

2. Select Flat Rock Library.

3. Enter the title, author or phrase of the book 

4. Select "Place Hold" on the left side of the screen.

5. Enter your library card number and your pin (the last four digits of your telephone number you registered upon obtaining your card). If you do not 

remember your pin use the word "changeme" as a pin. If this is rejected you 

will have to call or come into the library and choose a new pin. 

6. Choose a pick up location

Return             

Return materials you borrow to the circulation desk drop box inside the library.  You may also return materials outside the library, after hours, in the drop box located on the right side of the main doors.

Returning Overdue Materials

If you have overdue materials, the library will mail you two reminder letters. If you think the letters may be in error, please bring them to your local library.

If your fines and fees total $20 or more, you will not be able to continue to borrow.  Overdue charges do not accumulate over a $5.00 charge per item.  However, lost or non-returned items will be billed at the replacement cost, plus any library processing costs.

Flat Rock City Ordinance 58-101 protects the library from theft of library materials and or/conversion of those materials to personal use.  

Failure to return items when due shall make you guilty of a misdemeanor!   Please Return Your Library Materials!!

Overdue Fines

  • Adult and Young Adult books -- 15 cents a day

  • Compact Discs and CD-ROM Software -- 15 cents a day

  • Juvenile materials -- 15 cents a day

  • Videos and DVDs-- 25 cents a day

    Fines accrue per item, per calendar day, even if the library is closed.

Renewing Your Card                                               

You must renew your library card every four years.  Renew at the circulation desk.  When renewing, bring a driver's license or other form of ID which confirms your residency. 

Replacing Your Card

If you lose your library card, report it immediately.  YOU are responsible for materials borrowed on your card.  Parents and guardians are responsible for materials checked out on their child's card. To replace your lost library card, all card holders will be charged $2.00 fee for a replacement.
