Mission Statement

Flat Rock Public Library exists to provide open access to a variety of resources and  professional services that educate, enrich and inform.

Vision Statement

Flat Rock Public Library is an inviting, attractive facility; the use of signage and display furnishings makes it easy for library customers to discover to services are accessible to the disabled community.

A well-trained library staff acts in a professional, flexible and helpful manner to expedite requests and solve problems. We maintain high standards for performance and customer satisfaction. We proactively and continuously adjust and create services to meet evolving community needs and interests. Library staff and Board are openly accountable to the community. Procedures are designed and resources organized to provide maximum convenience and personalized service for the customer, while maintaining equity of access. All are cost effective and efficient. 

Staff is treated with respect and provided with a comfortable, adequately equipped working environment. Flexibility in scheduling provides maximum service at the busiest times while being as responsive as possible to individual needs.

Information is current, available on a timely basis and in a variety of formats. High demand items, including programs, are supplied in sufficient quantity to prevent long waiting lists. Resources shall go beyond meeting expressed needs to provide opportunities for discovery and broadened cultural awareness. Technologies are up to date, but not cutting edge, and appropriate to the Library's mission.

The Flat Rock Public Library collaborates with other community agencies, businesses and organizations to retain Flat Rock's heritage while improving its future. 

 

Flat Rock Public Library is a municipal  library serving the 8,488 residents in Flat Rock. The library is operated by the board of directors, who are appointed by the mayor. There are three professional librarians on staff.

The library is funded by the following sources

Property taxes  (63%) Flat Rock residents and business
General Fund  (15%) Appropriation from city 
State Aid  (1%) State and other sources
Collections, Penal Fines  (1%)  
Contract Communities  (3%) City of Rockwood
Other  (3%) Interest on investments , grants, donations and fees.

The Flat Rock Board of Directors meet every fourth Thursday each month at 7 pm.
